3D Printed Rocket Engine Testing Underway in Great Britain
Skyrora, based in Edinburgh, has begun testing a rocket engine produced with a 3D printer. This was reported by Sky News on Monday.
According to the report, the use of the printer halves the production time of the engine and reduces costs compared to previous models. If the engine tests are successful, the company plans to increase its production.
In March, the almost entirely 3D-printed Terran 1 rocket was launched in the United States, but it failed to reach orbit due to a malfunction of one of its engines. According to Relativity Space, which designs the rockets, 85% of Terran 1 was produced using a 3D printer, including its nine engines.
