Putin Does Not Rule Out Establishing a 'Sanitary Zone' in Ukraine for Protection Against Shelling
In response to the ongoing shelling of border regions by the Ukrainian armed forces, Russia may be compelled to discuss the establishment of a 'sanitary zone' within Ukrainian territory. This announcement was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with military journalists.
The president was questioned about the shelling of border areas of the Russian Federation. According to Putin, this is linked to Kyiv's desire to divert Russian forces and resources, pulling units out of areas that Ukraine deems critical for its offensive.
He emphasized that the Russian Federation must ensure the security of these regions and strengthen the border, a process that is already progressing at a rapid pace.
“And this issue will also be resolved. However, the possibility of Ukraine shelling our territory remains. There are several ways to address this. But that does not mean there will be no attacks. If they continue, we will have to discuss the establishment of such a sanitary zone within Ukrainian territory at a distance that they cannot disturb us,” the president stated.
