US to Provide $2 Billion Military Aid Package to Ukraine

Today, the United States is set to announce a new long-term military aid package for Ukraine, including anti-aircraft munitions worth more than $2 billion. Bloomberg reported this on Thursday, citing sources from the US administration.

According to them, the funds allocated under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) will be directed towards acquiring launchers and missiles for the Hawk surface-to-air missile system, as well as two types of advanced missiles for the Patriot anti-aircraft defense system: the PAC-3 produced by Lockheed Martin, and the GEM-T produced by Raytheon Technologies.

US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced during their meeting in Washington on June 8 that their countries would continue to support Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia. Biden pledged that Washington would provide necessary funding as long as Moscow does not halt its aggressive invasion of its neighbor.

Sunak emphasized that supporters of Ukraine must send a clear signal to Russian President Vladimir Putin that he should not expect an end to the aid provided to Kyiv.
