Official from the ruling party who assaulted a young man released from custody
A criminal case has been initiated in connection with the incident in Aragatsavan, and criminal proceedings have been launched against Suren Torosyan, the head of the Water Supply Company (JOO), with charges presented under part 1 of article 195 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. The individual has been released from custody, according to the Investigative Committee.
The Investigative Committee indicated that the article under which the charges were brought does not provide for detention, thus a preventive measure of a ban on leaving has been selected instead.
It is recalled that Suren Torosyan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract party and head of the Water Supply Company overseeing the village of Aragatsavan in the enlarged community of Talin, was accused by local residents of assaulting 24-year-old resident Armen Sahakyan. The incident sparked outrage among the residents of Aragatsavan, who blocked the Gyumri-Yerevan highway in protest.
