International Wrestling Tournament Dedicated to Stepan Sarkisyan to Be Held in Yerevan
From June 14-17, Yerevan will host the 25th international wrestling tournament dedicated to Stepan Sarkisyan, a distinguished master of sports of the USSR and silver medalist of the Olympic Games.
The government has made a decision to allocate 49,460,000 AMD for the organization and conduct of the tournament. According to the justification, in recent years, wrestling has achieved significant success, with Arsen Harutyunyan and Vazgen Tevanyan becoming European champions in 2023. In 2022, Arsen Harutyunyan, Vazgen Tevanyan, and Mushegh Mkrtchyan and Lyova Gevorgyan emerged as world champions for youth and under-23 categories and European winners, respectively.
Taking into consideration all these factors, as well as the traditions and development pathways of the Armenian Wrestling Federation, the international federation has proposed to hold the international wrestling tournament dedicated to Stepan Sarkisyan in Armenia.
About 140 participants from around 15 countries are expected to join the international tournament. The conduct of this tournament is crucial for the development and popularization of the sport, thus enhancing Armenia's recognition on international sports platforms as a leading country, strengthening the connection between Armenia and the Diaspora.
At the same time, it will contribute to the development of cultural values and tourism, including the restoration of hotels, cultural centers, and sports facilities, thereby facilitating the parallel development of the economy.
