What Does It Mean Not to Have a Mandate, Yet They Have Received a Mandate to Recognize Artsakh as Part of Azerbaijan?

“What does it mean to have received a mandate or not? I believe they have received a mandate from the Armenian people to defend and preserve Artsakh,” wrote David Babayan, an advisor to the President of Artsakh, on his Facebook page.

“This is written in the Constitution of Armenia, it is stated in the charter and program of the Civil Contract party; therefore, they have taken this obligation upon themselves. So now what does it mean when they say they haven't received a mandate, yet what mandate have they received to recognize Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan?” Babayan added.

It should be reminded that today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan stated that, as the Prime Minister of Armenia has repeatedly emphasized, we have not received a mandate from the people of Artsakh to negotiate their future, and accordingly, we have no right to determine their status, nor have we made any such claims or attempts to do so.
