Regional Governor Sparks Jealousy Scenes: 'Hraparak'
“The relationships between Syunik regional governor Robert Ghukasian and the local self-government leaders have sparked scenes of jealousy among the representatives of the ruling Civil Contract party elected from the region. Some of them are attempting to plot against the governor and whisper to the higher-ups that the governor appointed by Nikol Pashinyan socializes more with opposition community leaders such as Gorice’s Arush Arushanyan, Kajaran’s Manvel Paramazyan, and Kapan’s Gevorg Parsyan than with the leaders of the ruling party,” reports ‘Hraparak’.
“In recent days, Ghukasian has visited communities in the enlarged Goris municipality together with Arush Arushanyan, and just the day before, he organized a reception for citizens in Goris. Sources told us that during meetings with residents in the villages, Arush Arushanyan praised the governor, telling residents that it is the first time he has been attending meetings with regional authorities. Analyzing the governor's itinerary clearly shows that he has been making rounds throughout the region since last April: first Goraik, then Sisian, Tatev, Tegh, and in recent days, Goris. Among the five community leaders, two are from the opposition: Arushanyan and Samvel Lalayan, head of Tatev from the ‘Shant’ alliance. Meanwhile, Tegh’s leader, Ghulunts, who is the nephew of former regional governor Melikset Poghosyan’s sister, has awarded the governor a letter of thanks. We were informed that the governor's next stop will be Meghri, whose leader is a member of Aram Sargsyan’s party,” the newspaper wrote.
