Minasyan on Pregnant Woman Hit by Prime Minister's Motorcade

The Minister of Justice, Grigor Minasyan, addressed reporters regarding the fairness of the situation where there is a detained individual in the alleged kidnapping case of Prime Minister Pashinyan's son, while no one has been held accountable for the incident involving a pregnant woman hit by the Prime Minister's motorcade.

"Even in democratic countries, unfortunate incidents can occur; I don't want to comment specifically on that case. As a non-minister who has learned about the incident from social media, I have seen an unfortunate incident. Whether it is just or not, we must wait for the judicial act to come into legal force. The court needs to review all materials, the legislation, what obligations exist (referring to the Prime Minister's motorcade), whether there was a right to stop or not," said Minasyan.

He emphasized that there is no selective approach, simply democratic processes that are outside the standards for the public and for them personally. The minister provided examples, noting that it is outside the standard when a judge is subjected to disciplinary responsibility based on a decision of the European Court of Human Rights (referring to Supreme Court Civil Chamber Judge Suren Antonian) or even when a judge who issued a judicial act against the Prime Minister (Mnatsakan Martirosyan) is promoted, contrary to the executive branch.

It is worth recalling that on April 26, 2022, around 18:05, the driver of a vehicle accompanying the Prime Minister hit the pregnant Sona Mnatsakanyan at the intersection of Leo and Paronyan streets in Yerevan. She was transferred to the 'Nairi' Medical Center, where she died without regaining consciousness.

Regarding the case of Ashot Pashinyan, on May 17, information was released that members of the NGO 'Children's Call' attempted to kidnap the Prime Minister's son. He reported the incident to the police, after which the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia initiated a criminal case on the basis of kidnapping, and one person, Gayane Hakobyan, was detained.
