Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry Again Blames Macron After Five-Party Meeting
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has issued a statement in response to the remarks made by French President Emmanuel Macron following the five-party meeting, which was shared by the Élysée Palace.
According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Macron's statement regarding the outcomes of the five-party meeting held on June 1 in Chișinău does not contribute positively to the peace process.
A spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Aykhan Hajiyev, noted in his statement that traditionally, press releases following meetings involving the head of the European Council, the President of France, and the Chancellor of Germany, and attended by the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia, were issued by Charles Michel as the organizer of the Brussels format.
“The unilateral statement made later by the President of France regarding the meeting does not reflect and distorts the positions of the parties. Unfortunately, this is not the first instance of such actions by France, and it does not contribute positively to the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, nor to peace and stability in the region,” Hajiyev stated.
The Élysée Palace had released a statement addressing the outcomes of the five-party meeting involving leaders from Armenia, Azerbaijan, France, Germany, and the European Council. The French President specifically emphasized the importance of renouncing any hostile rhetoric and continuing efforts towards restoring peace for the benefit of all people in the region.
