Stoltenberg Gives 'Green Light' to Ukraine
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, commenting on the strikes by Ukrainian armed forces on the territory of the Russian Federation, stated that Ukraine "has the right to defend itself." He made this remark to reporters ahead of a meeting of foreign ministers from alliance countries, as reported by RIA Novosti.
The Secretary General added that NATO will assist Ukraine "as much as necessary." He emphasized, "However, this does not make NATO and NATO members a party to the conflict. It was our decision to support Ukraine without becoming a party to the conflict."
According to him, the North Atlantic Alliance has two objectives in this matter: to support Ukraine and to prevent the conflict from spreading beyond the country's borders.
In recent months, Russia's border regions have been repeatedly subjected to attacks by Ukrainian armed forces, particularly in the Belgorod and Bryansk regions. On June 1st, the Governor of Belgorod Oblast, Vyacheslav Gladkov, reported that the Shebekino district is under continuous shelling by Ukrainian forces.
