VIDEO: 68,000 USD Equivalent to 172,000 Georgian Lari and Marijuana Discovered

The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia has received operational information from the Investigative and Operational Intelligence Department of the State Revenue Committee regarding citizens G.H. and A.H. engaging in the smuggling of cash.

This was reported by the State Revenue Committee of Armenia.

“For the purpose of verifying the received data, operational monitoring was established over the mentioned individuals by the employees of the Investigative and Operational Intelligence of the State Revenue Committee, as well as the Eastern Customs Administration. During this time, they crossed the Armenian-Georgian border at the Bagratashen border checkpoint, but when passing through customs control, they did not declare any items, objects, or cash,” the statement read.

“Immediately after leaving the customs control zone, the individuals suspected of cash smuggling and their vehicle were returned to the customs control zone by the employees of the State Revenue Committee. As a result of inspecting these citizens and their vehicle, approximately 68,000 USD equivalent to 172,000 Georgian lari in cash and marijuana were discovered.”

A criminal case has been initiated in the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia regarding the smuggling of cash and drugs.

The State Revenue Committee of Armenia informs that cash and payment instruments exceeding 10,000 USD equivalent must be declared when crossing the state border of Armenia (except when departing or arriving from countries that are members of the Eurasian Economic Union),” the statement concluded.
