The Southern Customs Administration of the Armenian State Revenue Committee continues its relentless fight against the illegal import and export of goods through the Agarak border checkpoint. This information was shared by the SRC.
“In the past week, several violations related to tobacco products have been uncovered. In one incident, customs officers discovered 1000 boxes of heated tobacco sticks under a pre-prepared hiding place in the floor of a bus traveling from Armenia to Iran. In three other cases, 1310 boxes of cigarettes from the 'Marlboro' and 'Wisdom' brands were found hidden in the cabins of trucks arriving from Iran and from a hiding place in the ceiling of one of the vehicles, evading customs control.
Additionally, three Armenian citizens arriving from Iran were found to be concealing a total of 160 boxes of cigarettes, including some that were strapped to one citizen's body, which were discovered during a personal search.
Administrative proceedings have been initiated under Articles 313 and 316 of the Law on Customs Regulation of the Republic of Armenia.
In another case, customs officials found 316 tablets containing methadone, a type of narcotic, hidden within cigarette boxes belonging to an Iranian citizen arriving from the Islamic Republic of Iran. Preparations for materials have been submitted to the Investigative Committee of Armenia under Article 399 of the Criminal Code of Armenia,” the report states.
