‘In 2022, 45 police officers were dismissed for abusing their powers’ - Fidanian
Violating police officers in Armenia are held accountable through criminal and disciplinary measures. This was stated today by Ara Fidanian, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during a joint session of the Committees on Defense and Security and Financial and Budgetary Affairs in the National Assembly.
According to the official, in all cases where there is a blatant excess of authority by the police, appropriate processes are initiated, criminal proceedings are launched, and service investigations are appointed.
“We have police officers dismissed from service, and we have employees held accountable for various violations. If I’m not mistaken, only in 2022, 45 people were dismissed from service,” noted Fidanian.
Fidanian also believes that complaints about the harsh actions of the police mainly come from citizens who have committed violations. He is not sure that law-abiding citizens have had reasons to complain about the brutality of law enforcement.
