In Tegh Village, 50 Residents Unable to Access Their Lands, Says Syunik Governor
Due to the actions of the armed forces of Azerbaijan, around 50 residents have been deprived of access to their lands and are unable to carry out agricultural work. This was stated by the Governor of Syunik region, Robert Ghukasyan, during a briefing with reporters.
According to him, local authorities are currently assessing the economic damage caused to residents by the actions of the Azerbaijani units. Ghukasyan assured that this concerns not only the areas where the Azerbaijani armed forces have invaded but also those areas where the armed forces of Armenia are stationed. Once the fortification work is completed, it will be possible to accurately record agricultural damage for potential compensation in the future.
“In total, currently, 50 residents are unable to access their lands,” emphasized the governor. He noted that this issue is particularly relevant in Tegh village.
Regarding the overall situation in Syunik, he highlighted that the situation remains tense and uncertain. Despite all this, local residents have not left their homes and have no intention of doing so. Ghukasyan also pointed out that the population number has remained unchanged since the 44-day war. In some cases, individuals who had previously left their native areas have returned. The only exception, according to the governor, was during the aggression in September 2021 when people temporarily left their homes for two days, which was noticeable in school attendance, but they returned very quickly.
It is important to note that on March 30, the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia announced that the Azerbaijani side had once again violated agreements and deployed 100-300 meters beyond agreed points, with some locations seeing the Azerbaijani side establishing positions and carrying out engineering works without waiting for prior agreements.
On April 1, the NSS stated that a meeting took place involving representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan in the Tegh-Kornidzor area, and boundary clarification work was conducted, significantly improving the situation in that area. However, on April 11, Azerbaijani armed units opened fire in the direction of the Tegh community towards Armenian military personnel engaged in engineering work, also employing mortar weapons. As a result of the Azerbaijani provocation, the Armenian side suffered 4 casualties and 6 injuries.
