ICRC: 'We Can Only Take Action After Receiving a Request' Regarding Soldiers' Case

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is monitoring the situation but can only take action after receiving an official request. Zara Amatuni, head of the ICRC Armenia office's communication and prevention programs, stated this in an interview with Sputnik Armenia regarding the abduction of two Armenian servicemen by the Azerbaijani side.

The Armenian Ministry of Defense reported last night that communication with two servicemen who were delivering food to combat positions was lost. Today, it was announced that a rear supply vehicle was found on the inter-positions road, which also contained one of the servicemen's weapons.

"We are monitoring the situation, but we can only carry out our work within the scope of our mandate based on an official confirmation or a request from the family," Amatuni said, adding that there is currently no such request from either the official side or the families of the soldiers.

It should be noted that earlier, Azerbaijani media and subsequently the Azerbaijani State Border Service reported that they had detained two Armenian servicemen. The Azerbaijani side claimed that this was related to an alleged attempt of a 'diversionary group' to infiltrate. The Armenian Ministry of Defense denied the reports of a diversionary infiltrating attempt.
