Moldovan Parliament Extends State of Emergency for 60 Days Due to Conflict in Ukraine

The Moldovan Parliament has extended the state of emergency declared in the country for an additional 60 days, citing threats to national security stemming from the situation in Ukraine. This resolution was adopted on Friday during a session broadcast by the legislative body’s press service.

“The state of emergency throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova has been extended for 60 days from June 4, 2023,” the decree states. It received approval from 58 votes of the pro-European "Action and Solidarity" party members, while the opposition voted against it, announced the legislative body's chairman Igor Grosu.

Addressing the deputies, Prime Minister Dorin Recean explained the necessity of these emergency measures due to the conflict in Ukraine, instability in the energy sector, and accused Russia of attempting to destabilize the situation in Moldova.
