Armenia's Rapid Rearmament Creates New Threats, Says Aliyev

“Today, revanchist forces are flaring up in Armenia, and territorial claims against our country continue. Armenia's rapid rearmament is creating new threats. If Armenia truly wants peace with Azerbaijan, then why is it purchasing weapons worth hundreds of millions of dollars? This policy could lead to new threats for the region,” stated the authoritarian leader of Baku, Ilham Aliyev, during a meeting with the newly appointed Indian ambassador to Azerbaijan. This was reported on Telegram by Azerbaijani expert Tatevik Hayrapetyan.

“Aliyev himself has repeatedly stated that he spends enormous amounts on strengthening the Azerbaijani army. The question is: if Azerbaijan wants peace, then why are such resources allocated to the military? Why is the occupied Karvachar becoming a launch pad for possible actions against Armenia? The answer is that no matter how much Pashinyan promises to recognize Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan, it is not enough for Azerbaijan; they want more. Therefore, they are preparing for war against Armenia, and against this backdrop, they wish for there to be no armed army or organized resistance here,” Hayrapetyan wrote.
