VIDEO: Tensions Flare as Scuffles Break Out Near Court
Near the Shengavit court in Yerevan, where the appeal against the arrest of Gayane Martirosyan, mother of the slain Zhora Martirosyan, is being heard, tensions escalated when Garik Galeyan, father of fallen soldier Mikitar Galeyan, attempted to enter the court building. A police officer stationed at the entrance denied him access, resulting in a scuffle between the relatives of the deceased soldiers, gathered citizens, and police forces.
A significant police presence is concentrated near the court, along with opposition parliament members.
It is worth mentioning that yesterday, May 17, the newspaper “Haykakan Zhamanak,” associated with the prime minister's family, reported that members of the NGO “Call of the Sons” attempted to abduct the prime minister's son. According to the newspaper, the parents of fallen soldiers forced Ashot Pashinyan into their vehicle, but he managed to escape from the car when it briefly stopped, after which he was hit by a vehicle following the members of the organization.
Ashot Pashinyan has filed a report regarding the incident. The Investigative Committee has launched a criminal case for the attempted abduction, resulting in the arrest of one person, Gayane Hakobyan.
Human rights defender Ruben Melikyan has indicated that Gayane Hakobyan's health has deteriorated, and she has been transported to the “Erebuni” medical center by ambulance with police escort. This morning it became known that Gayane Hakobyan was transferred from the “Erebuni” medical center to a facility for holding detainees.
