Uzbek Terrorist Who Ran Over 8 People in New York Sentenced to 8 Life Terms

Saifullo Saipov, an Uzbek national, has been sentenced to 8 life terms in prison for running over eight people five years ago in downtown New York City, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

"Saipov has been sentenced to eight life terms," the agency stated in a press release on its website.

In 2017, Saipov drove a truck onto a bike lane in Manhattan, hitting cyclists and crashing into a school bus. Eight people were killed, and 12 others sustained various degrees of injuries.

Saipov was charged with eight counts of murder, 12 counts of attempted murder, and aiding the Islamic State terrorist group. The man confessed to investigators that he was inspired by terrorist videos to carry out the attack using the truck.
