VIDEO: Never say never - US Secretary of State on recognizing Russia as a 'state sponsor of terrorism'
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken was asked about recognizing Russia as a 'state sponsor of terrorism'. Specifically, US Senator Lindsey Graham stated: “We all want China to stop helping Russia, right? A hundred US senators have suggested that Russia be declared a state sponsor of terrorism to deter countries like China from supplying them weapons. Months have passed and nothing has happened. Mr. Secretary, you will never declare Russia a state sponsor of terrorism, will you?”
In response to the question, Blinken replied, “Never say never.”
It should be noted that last autumn, US President Joe Biden responded negatively to the question of whether Russia should be recognized as a state sponsor of terrorism. It was mentioned that Secretary of State Blinken was also opposed to this decision.
Recognizing Russia as a sponsor of terrorism would backfire on Americans, including preventing businesses from participating in Russian nuclear material transactions, as well as leading to the failure of the Ukrainian grain deal and new sanctions that would not be favorable to Washington.
Earlier, the US Senate had passed a resolution calling on the State Department to recognize Russia as a terrorist country.
