Customs Committee Comments on 3 Tons of Cocaine Destined for Armenia
The cargo, along with all related documentation, must pass through customs before it becomes a matter under the jurisdiction of the Customs Committee (CC). This was reported by Tert.am.
We requested a comment regarding the approximately 3 tons of cocaine discovered at an Italian port, which was reportedly en route to Armenia from Ecuador.
The CC stated that they have no information or responsibility as long as the cargo has not crossed the Armenian border: “Even with the greatest desire, we cannot provide any information until the cargo reaches Armenia. After it crosses the border, we become the managers of the cargo,” officials from the CC said.
It should be noted that the Italian financial police uncovered a record batch of nearly 3 tons of cocaine, which was intended for Armenia from Ecuador. The drugs were frozen in 12-meter packages concealed within 78 tons of bananas. These two containers were being shipped from Guayaquil (Ecuador) to Armenia via the Georgian port of Batumi.
