VIDEO: Armenian Prisoner Thrown in Front of Azerbaijanis After Being Rolled Out of Vehicle - Siranush Sahakyan
Armenian prisoners are subjected to brutal beatings in the Azerbaijani military police, as reported today, May 12, during a press conference by Siranush Sahakyan, head of the Comparative Law Center and representative of Armenian prisoners' interests at the European Court of Human Rights. She presented a new special report created in conjunction with former Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan.
“These abuses are coupled with deprivation of food and sleep, and they have also subjected them to harsh weather conditions, causing additional suffering. For example, especially in cold weather, they have been placed in conditions that exacerbate their suffering from freezing,” she stated.
Sahakyan noted that this policy has continued under the supervision of special services, and more intense inhumane treatment has been exhibited in places of detention, highlighting Azerbaijani supremacy over the Armenian ethnic group through the humiliation of national dignity.
According to her, the Azerbaijani side continues to carry out targeted actions causing additional suffering to the families of those under their control since the 2020 war.
Siranush Sahakyan emphasized that civilians and medical personnel are also involved in the mistreatment of prisoners. “Military or civilian doctors who encountered soldiers applied violence. We have numerous testimonies from the latest incidents where prisoners of war were handed over to civilians. For instance, while being transported to Baku, they stopped in a village where civilians had already gathered, and the soldier was rolled out of the vehicle and thrown in front of them, where they used violence and beat him,” she noted.
