UEFA Wants to Move Champions League Final from Istanbul to Lisbon

The Champions League final may be moved from Istanbul to Lisbon, according to the Daily Mail. UEFA is wary of unrest that may arise in Turkey due to the presidential elections.

As such, UEFA has been negotiating the potential relocation of the Champions League final to Lisbon if riots break out in Istanbul following the presidential elections.

The 2023 Champions League final is scheduled for June 10 at Istanbul's Atatürk Olympic Stadium, but there are concerns about the likelihood of civil unrest if President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's two-decade rule ends based on the results of this month's elections.

According to the source, UEFA has already sent an unofficial inquiry to the Portuguese Football Federation regarding the possibility of holding the final at Lisbon's Estádio da Luz.

It is worth noting that the Champions League final has already been postponed twice from Istanbul due to the coronavirus pandemic, initially in 2020 and then again in 2021.

Recall that the first round of Turkey's presidential elections is set to take place on May 14.
