Petition to Reinstate Victory Day Celebrations Appears on Zelensky's Office Website
A petition demanding the annulment of Europe Day and the reinstatement of Victory Day celebrations has appeared on the website of Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"Our grandfathers fought not for Russia, but for Ukraine, which was part of the Soviet Union, thus it makes no sense to cancel this holiday," the text states.
The petition was registered on May 11 and has so far received around 70 votes, far short of the 25,000 needed for consideration.
It is noteworthy that on Monday, Zelensky announced that he had submitted a bill to parliament proposing to establish May 8 as a day of remembrance and victory over Nazism in Ukraine. He also signed a decree designating May 9 as Europe Day.
