Eight Killed in Unrest in Pakistan
At least eight people have died following unrest that erupted after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Pakistan. Additionally, over 290 individuals have been injured, and at least 1,200 protesters have been detained. This information has been reported by INTERFAX.RU, citing Dawn.
For security reasons, the presence of military personnel has increased in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, and Islamabad.
Imran Khan was arrested and detained for eight days on May 9. His arrest sparked protests from his supporters, leading to clashes with police, arson, and chaos.
On May 10, clashes continued throughout the day across the country, resulting in damage to several administrative buildings. Protesters set fire to police stations in Islamabad and Lahore, as well as a Pakistan Radio office in Peshawar and ambulances that were evacuating the injured.
It is worth noting that media outlets indicate the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is now an opposition leader. He is accused of selling 52 valuable items from the state treasury and concealing information about gifts received during his time as Prime Minister.
