Azerbaijan Tries to Apply Pressure Before Negotiations to Appear from a Position of Strength: Seyran Ohanyan
Azerbaijan likely aimed to improve its positioning in certain areas once again. This was stated today, May 11, in a conversation with journalists by Seyran Ohanyan, the leader of the Armenia parliamentary group ‘Hayastan’.
“Azerbaijan probably aimed to improve its positioning in certain regions once again. The strategic goal is to exert influence on Armenia, to maintain continuous pressure so that throughout the negotiation process or in Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, they can always present themselves from a position of strength and superiority. Their goal is to put pressure on Armenia and tighten the noose around Artsakh,” Ohanyan mentioned.
“If this occurs alongside the negotiation process, it once again speaks to the fact that Azerbaijan's policies toward us have not changed. For every stage of negotiations, before, after, or during, they organize displays of power and provocations to force us into concessions during negotiations. Thank God, when the army shows strength, they cannot achieve success in negotiations,” Ohanyan noted.
According to Seyran Ohanyan, the purpose of this provocation was to gain a positional improvement and to completely control the Sotk mine. “The authorities of the Republic of Armenia must do everything possible to make progress. Preventive measures in decision-making are a necessity,” Ohanyan stated.
