Man Dies Not from Falling into a Puddle, But from Murder
In the framework of the criminal proceedings conducted by the Shirak Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee, a murder case involving a 54-year-old resident of Gyumri has been revealed.
On May 5, 2023, the Police Department of Gyumri’s Mush Division informed the Shirak Regional Investigative Directorate about a body found near a building on Isahakyan Street at approximately 09:00.
An operational group that immediately arrived at the scene discovered a 54-year-old man's body lying face down in a puddle adjacent to the mentioned building.
During the examination of the body, various injuries and abrasions were found on different parts, leading to the conclusion that the individual had not died from falling into the puddle, but rather from murder.
The identities of the suspected perpetrators have been established; they are residents of the same city, born in 1978 and 1977. Both have been arrested on the grounds of having a reasonable suspicion of committing the crime and have provided self-incriminating testimonies.
According to the information obtained during the preliminary investigation, on May 4, 2023, around 09:30, the 54-year-old man visited the house of a 45-year-old fellow citizen on Gogol Street, where he consumed alcohol with this person and another resident of Gyumri, aged 46. A dispute arose between them over domestic matters, during which the 45-year-old intentionally struck the 54-year-old in the face with a fist. The 46-year-old intervened to prevent further actions.
Shortly thereafter, the argument resumed, and the 45-year-old again intentionally punched the 54-year-old in the face, threw him to the floor, and then kicked him multiple times in various parts of his body, unlawfully depriving him of life.
Afterwards, the 45 and 46-year-old men left the body in the aforementioned house and locked the door as they departed. Upon returning on May 5 at around 04:00, they moved the body and disposed of it in the puddle next to the building on Isahakyan Street in Gyumri.
Based on sufficient evidence, public criminal proceedings have been initiated against the 45-year-old resident of Gyumri under the first part of Article 155 of the RA Criminal Code (murder), while the 46-year-old man faces charges under the first part of Article 474 (aiding a perpetrator). The prosecuting body has filed a motion with the court for the 45-year-old man to be remanded in custody as a measure of restraint. The investigation is ongoing.
