VIDEO: How Kyiv's Air Defense Shot Down Its Own Bayraktar TB2

The air defense system in Kyiv has shot down a drone over Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square). This was announced by the mayor of the Ukrainian capital, Vitali Klitschko.

After the drone's debris fell onto a nearby building, a fire broke out, and the damage was estimated at 150 square meters. It later became clear that the drone belonged to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Lenta.ru reports that initially, Ukrainian media and Telegram channels claimed that Kyiv's air defense had intercepted a Russian strike drone. Various sources suggested that it could be a Forpost, Corsair-4, or the Iranian Mohajer-6 drone. However, Ukrainian military officials later admitted that the downed UAV turned out to be the Turkish Bayraktar TB2, which had been purchased by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The decision to shoot down the drone was made because its uncontrolled presence in Kyiv's skies could lead to 'unwanted consequences,' as explained by the country's Air Force Command. 'It's unfortunate, but this is technology, and such incidents happen,' the statement read.
