Second Unit of Nuclear Power Plant Shut Down for Preventive Maintenance

The second unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant has been shut down for maintenance starting today. This information was published on the ANPP's Facebook page.

"On May 5 at 01:45, the second unit of the ANPP was shut down for its annual planned preventive maintenance, lasting for 75 days," the announcement stated.

The following main works are planned: medium maintenance of the reactor with complete unloading of the active zone, renovation of the main circulating pumps No. 2 and 3, renovation of steam generators No. 2 and 3, current maintenance of the turbo generators, and current maintenance of the steam turbines.

The plant also reports that in addition to the above main works, tasks aimed at modernizing certain safety systems will be carried out, for example, the replacement of piping for the cooling system of responsible consumers.

In the planned works, besides the employees of the main production departments of the ANPP, specialists with extensive experience in the repair of nuclear plant systems and equipment from the Russian Federation, Croatia, the Czech Republic, and other countries are involved.

The maintenance process will be carried out under the supervision of specialists from the Nuclear Safety Regulation Committee of the Republic of Armenia. The operation of the second unit of the ANPP is scheduled to resume on July 18.
