I regret that the installation of the "Nemesis" monument has received such a response from Turkey, says Alen Simonian in Istanbul
The President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, announced at a press conference in Ankara today that the "Nemesis" monument was installed by the decision of the city authorities.
"I regret that the installation of the monument has received such a response from Turkey. The decision was made by the local self-government body, and I do not wish for this to be perceived here as a manifestation of Armenia's foreign policy or as an unfriendly act," Simonian stated. He added that Armenia's state foreign policy is carried out by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and that everyone has witnessed the decisions made at this level in recent months.
Alen Simonian also remarked that one can always find reasons to undermine relations if desired. "I could have found a thousand different reasons not to come to Turkey, but I am here to tell the Turkish society that Armenia is ready for peace and normalization of relations without preconditions," said the President of the National Assembly of Armenia.
It should be noted that following the installation of the "Nemesis" monument, Turkey has closed its airspace for flights from Armenia to third countries. Earlier, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that "the unveiling of the monument glorifies the bloody acts that paved the way for monstrous terrorism."
