The Conflict in Ukraine Will Not End This Year, Says US Joint Chiefs Chairman

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of the US Armed Forces, General Mark Milley, believes that the conflict in Ukraine is unlikely to end in 2023. He made this statement in an interview with Foreign Affairs.

“I think it will be very difficult, very difficult, for either side to achieve its political objectives, and war is about achieving political objectives through military means. Honestly, I don't think there is a chance that this will happen this year,” said Milley.

Earlier, Milley and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, discussed the progression of the conflict and exchanged assessments of the situation during a phone conversation. During the call, Milley and Zaluzhnyi reviewed the course of military operations. They also shared thoughts on the prospects of combat operations and their assessments of the current situation along the frontline.
