Gas Explosion and Collapse in an Apartment in Abovyan: Injuries Reported

On May 2, at 01:14, the Kotayk regional crisis management center received information about a gas explosion due to a leak in one of the apartments on the third floor of the "Chapichi" dormitory in Abovyan. Reports indicate that there are injured individuals.

Two firefighting units from the Ministry of Emergency Situations' regional rescue administration were dispatched to the scene. It was determined that the explosion occurred from gas that had leaked and accumulated from a 20 kg gas cylinder, causing the wall of the living room of the apartment to collapse, covering an area of approximately 10 square meters. No signs of a fire were found.

Residents T.A. (born 1964) and K.O. (born 1972) were taken to the Abovyan medical center with burns and later transferred to the National Burn Center. Doctors have assessed the health condition of the victims as moderate.

During the inspection, no cracks were found on the building's supporting columns or other walls. Rescuers have moved the gas cylinder to a safe area and are monitoring the situation until its contents are completely emptied.
