VIDEO: Shoigu and China's Defense Minister Hold Unscheduled Talks Within SCO Framework
Russian and Chinese Defense Ministers Sergey Shoigu and Li Shangfu held unscheduled discussions on Friday during the council meeting of defense ministers from member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). According to the protocol, the bilateral talks between the defense ministers of Russia and China were not pre-planned and took place in New Delhi, where the SCO defense ministers' consultation is being held.
"The real goal of the West in the Ukraine conflict is to bring about a strategic defeat for Russia," stated Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu. He also noted that it is precisely the West's initiative that has led to the breakdown and dismantling of key agreements on arms control and confidence-building.
Shoigu believes that the United States and its partners are implementing a strategic scheme to provoke military confrontation between other countries and Russia and China. In his view, all Western attempts to influence Russia's partners for the purpose of isolating the country are failing.
Sergey Shoigu announced that the real goal of the West is to achieve a strategic victory over Russia in Ukraine and pose a threat to China while maintaining its monopolistic position. Shoigu asserted that "almost all" NATO countries have deployed their military capabilities against Russia.
