The Threat of Ethnic Cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh is Becoming More Tangible: Armen Grigoryan
In 2020, Russian peacekeepers promised residents of Artsakh guarantees of security. The residents of Artsakh returned, also heeding these guarantees. However, the threat of ethnic cleansing is becoming more and more tangible.
This was announced by the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, during a broadcast on Public TV.
The Secretary of the Security Council labeled the opposition's accusations that the Armenian authorities are to blame for the situation as false, asserting that they have mismanaged relations with Russia. He emphasized that pro-Russian sentiments have always existed in Nagorno-Karabakh and that Armenia has not changed its foreign policy vector.
“It is very important for Armenia that Armenians live in Nagorno-Karabakh, and that there are guarantees of rights and security there. Numerous steps are being taken for this purpose,” Grigoryan stated.
He admitted that Azerbaijan is attempting to forcefully push favorable conditions for a peace agreement. While Armenia is in a difficult situation, it is trying to find new guarantees of security.
