Co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Call for Reopening of the Lachin Corridor

The co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) have reaffirmed their call for the reopening of the Lachin Corridor. This is noted on the official PACE website.

The statement was published by PACE monitoring co-rapporteurs Ian Liddel-Grainger (United Kingdom) and Liz Christophersen (Norway), as well as Armenian monitoring co-rapporteurs Kimmo Kiljunen (Finland) and Boriana Aberg (Sweden).

“We reaffirm our call for the restoration of free movement through the Lachin Corridor, which was published on December 16, 2022, and remind of the European Court of Human Rights’ decision of December 21, 2022, as well as the decision made by the International Court of Justice on February 22, 2023. The ruling of the Court of Justice stated that traffic through the Lachin Corridor should be restored,” the statement reads.

At the same time, the co-rapporteurs urge both Armenia and Azerbaijan to refrain from any unilateral actions that could further complicate the EU-supported negotiation efforts and the presence of the EU mission in Armenia. They also call for the activation of negotiations on border issues and the peaceful resolution of all disputes.

It is mentioned that PACE rapporteur Paul Gavan (Ireland) will try to visit the Lachin Corridor to get acquainted with the situation on the ground.
