Biden Promises Not to Deploy Nuclear Weapons in the Korean Peninsula

The United States will not deploy its nuclear weapons in the Korean Peninsula. This was announced on April 26 by American President Joe Biden during a joint press conference with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol following talks at the White House.

According to him, Washington does not plan to deploy nuclear weapons in South Korea; however, American nuclear submarines will approach the peninsula. “We are not going to deploy nuclear weapons, but nuclear submarines and such things will be stationed,” the American leader stated.

Biden warned that if North Korea attacks the U.S. with nuclear weapons, the regime in Pyongyang will be destroyed. In turn, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol noted that the American side has reassured him about the operational deployment of forces in case of a nuclear attack from Pyongyang.

He added that the U.S. and South Korea have agreed to establish a “nuclear consultative group” to develop special programs for extended deterrence against North Korea.
