Installation of Azerbaijani Checkpoint May Signal Start of New Major Operation: Bruno Retayo

Between April 22 and 25, a delegation led by Bruno Retayo, head of the French Senate, is in Armenia to participate in commemorative events for the victims of the Armenian Genocide. The delegation members traveled to the village of Tegh, where a shootout occurred on April 11. This was reported by 1lurer.am.

“We have arrived to demand that Azerbaijan immediately lift the blockade of the Lachin corridor, liberate the 120,000 Armenians who are in awful conditions in Nagorno-Karabakh, and we are also here to demand the restoration of the connection between Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. What is the sense of commemorating the victims of 1915 if we turn a blind eye to the ethnic and religious cleansing happening in Nagorno-Karabakh?” Retayo stated during a press conference held in Tegh.

He noted the danger that the installation of a new checkpoint by Azerbaijani forces near the entrance to the new road leading to Nagorno-Karabakh, within the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers, may be the beginning of a new major operation, which would lead to the permanent closure of the Lachin corridor.
