Are the US, France, Russia, and the EU Ready to Guarantee the Implementation of the Upcoming Peace Treaty? Marukyan
The Special Representative of Armenia, Edmund Marukyan, made a statement regarding the illegal checkpoint established by Azerbaijan in the Lachin corridor, as well as the prospective signing of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“Azerbaijan has installed a checkpoint in the Lachin corridor, violating the trilateral agreement signed on November 9, 2020. The co-chair countries of the OSCE Minsk Group, the USA, France, Russia, as well as Josep Borrell (the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy), have expressed their concerns in this regard. It is interesting that all three countries and the EU call on the parties to reach an agreement and sign a peace treaty.
Here, an important question arises: if Azerbaijan continuously violates the declaration signed on November 9, 2020, what guarantees does Armenia have that Azerbaijan will not also violate the signed peace treaty?
Are the same members of the international community — the USA, France, Russia, and the EU — ready to guarantee the implementation of the peace treaty to be signed with Azerbaijan?” Marukyan wrote.
