Ukraine is Preparing for a Counteroffensive, Says Zelensky

Ukraine cannot afford to abandon the defense of Bakhmut, as its capture could open a foothold for Russia to advance toward Kramatorsk and Sloviansk. This statement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with Al Arabiya.

“We cannot give up Bakhmut, as it would help expand the front of military operations and would allow Russian troops and Wagner to seize more of our territory,” Zelensky remarked.

He pointed out that if Russia captures Bakhmut, it could become a launchpad for seizing two major cities - Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, which Russia has long sought to capture. Zelensky urged everyone to visit the city to understand the potential implications and threats that exist.

The Ukrainian President expressed confidence in Ukraine’s ability to repel the Russian invasion, stating that Ukraine is preparing for a counteroffensive. “I cannot rate the situation well, but we are fighting, we are stronger than a year ago,” he noted.

Zelensky also emphasized that the Ukrainian army is preparing for a counteroffensive and is confident about its success. “Our army is getting ready, and we are doing everything to make it stronger,” Ukraine's president said.
