Wagner Group Attempted to Purchase Weapons from China but Was Rejected: Secret Documents
The Wagner private military group attempted to buy weapons and ammunition from China at the beginning of 2023, as reported by The Financial Times, citing leaked documents from U.S. intelligence and the Pentagon.
A representative of the private military company reportedly made a proposal to China regarding the supply of weapons. Intelligence sources indicate that China did not provide any weapons, not even samples, and there is no information suggesting that any supplies were planned.
However, according to The Financial Times, it is noteworthy that representatives of the group approached Chinese authorities with such a request. The newspaper suggests that they likely had grounds to expect that the People's Republic of China would be willing to discuss the matter.
In contrast to China, Belarus and Syria have agreed to sell weapons to Wagner, according to the leaked documents. This includes grenades and ammunition specifically intended for them.
