Video: "History of the Armenian Church" to Be Removed from Schools, Says Minister of Education
In 2021, the state standards for general education were established, outlining our approaches, and these standards will be implemented in all schools starting this September. This was stated by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan during a conversation with reporters, commenting on the Patriarch's observations regarding the subject of "History of the Armenian Church" made yesterday.
“Regarding the concerns or position raised by the church, this is not new; we have already moved past the discussion phase, as we had multiple opportunities to discuss during the approval and discussion phase of the standards. Of course, we approach it with understanding, and I don’t think we should have a single approach on all issues. I believe opinions can differ and remain different even after discussions, but what is important is that we are able to speak openly,” said the minister.
It should be recalled that yesterday the Catholicos of All Armenians stated in a conversation with reporters that the approach of wanting to disintegrate the subject of "History of the Armenian Church" into other subjects or limiting its teaching to the 1st-2nd grades is unacceptable for the Mother See.
According to him, meetings and discussions with committees should take place regarding this issue, which will lead to solutions. He mentioned that this proposal has also been communicated to Zhanna Andreasyan, and they are now awaiting a response.
It is noteworthy that according to the decision of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, starting from the 2023-24 academic year, "History of the Armenian Church" will no longer be a separate subject and will be included in the history textbooks.
