Video: 1 kg of Smuggled Gold Ingot Found with Russian Citizen at Zvartnots

The State Revenue Committee (SRC) has prevented the illegal transfer of a gold ingot across the borders of Armenia. The relevant materials have been sent to the Investigative Committee of Armenia regarding this fact. This was announced in a press release by the SRC's Information and Public Relations Department.

The Anti-Smuggling Department of the State Revenue Committee continues its uncompromising fight against the illegal transfer of strategically important raw materials across the state borders of the Republic of Armenia.

Recently, employees of the Anti-Smuggling Department and the Passenger Customs Control Division of the SRC's Western Customs House jointly inspected the luggage of a Russian citizen, identified as D.C., who arrived from Tbilisi to Yerevan at the customs control zone of the passenger terminal at Zvartnots International Airport.

After passing through the 'green' customs lane, the passenger was accompanied to a scanning device for further inspection. The inspection revealed an unregistered gold-colored ingot weighing 1 kg, which was placed in a transparent polyethylene bag along with Russian documents, inside a brown fabric shoulder bag that also contained personal belongings.

According to the verbal statement of the Russian citizen, the item is a gold ingot. During the search, seven documents in Russian and four documents in Georgian were found in the same shoulder bag, which, according to D.C., are the papers for the discovered ingot.

A record of the smuggling incident was drawn up based on the characteristics defined by Article 292 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, the ingot was seized, and the compiled materials were sent to the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
