The U.S. Is Not Interested in Direct Involvement in the Ukrainian Conflict: Pentagon

The U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense for Political Affairs Colin Kahl has stated that the country is not interested in direct involvement in the Ukrainian conflict, and it has not escalated into a third world war. He made these remarks in an interview with Foreign Policy.

“President Biden has also made it clear that while we are doing everything to support Ukraine, the United States is not interested in directly entering the conflict and turning it into a third world war,” Kahl said.

Previously, Kahl had mentioned that, in his opinion, negotiations regarding the situation in Ukraine are still “far from close,” and military operations will continue for several more months.

Meanwhile, Peter Stano, a spokesperson for the European Union's foreign affairs service, stated that the EU supports a peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, the European Union has backed peace initiatives even before the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine. Stano noted that the EU has provided several opportunities for the Russian authorities to “civilly address their concerns at the negotiating table.”
