Video: Former Indian Politician and His Brother Shot Dead on Live Television
Former Indian politician Atiq Ahmed, who had been convicted of kidnapping, was shot dead alongside his brother during a live television broadcast, reports BBC.
Ahmed, who was in police custody, was speaking with reporters in Prayagraj city, Uttar Pradesh, when a gun was pointed at his head. After the gunfire, three men, who posed as journalists, quickly surrendered and were arrested.
Ahmed's teenage son had been killed by police just days earlier. Ahmed had previously claimed that the police were threatening his life.
According to the police, the alleged three assailants had arrived on motorcycles. A police officer and a journalist were also injured at the scene. Following the incident, the Chief Minister of the state, Yogi Adityanath, ordered a judicial inquiry into the murder and prohibited gatherings in Uttar Pradesh regions.
