Ukrainian Armed Forces Have Lost Up to 131,000 Soldiers: Washington Post

According to estimates from the U.S. government, during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the Ukrainian army has lost between 124,000 to 131,000 killed and wounded soldiers, a figure five times higher than what Kyiv has reported, writes The Washington Post, citing 'classified documents.'

'Ukraine needs more soldiers urgently. Kyiv is preparing to advance towards Russian forces, and while Ukraine does not provide data, field commanders insist that they have suffered huge losses,' the newspaper states.

On September 21, 2022, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu declared that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had lost more than 61,000 personnel during the special operation, with another 49,000 considered injured at the time. In March of this year, the minister noted that the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were increasing, with over 11,000 casualties reported in February alone.

The American publication Politico, citing officials, reported that more than 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died, including many of the most experienced fighters, and these losses have been notably recorded in Artemovsk (Bakhmut).
