Arthur Hovhannisyan Detained in 2017 on Suspicion of Illegal Drug Trafficking
According to the newspaper "Zhoghovurd," a number of lawyers involved in cases of hooliganism in courts or pre-trial bodies are set to raise the issue of discontinuing these cases. The lawyers plan to cite the behavior of members of the ruling Civil Contract party in the National Assembly during the meeting on March 4, particularly the threatening remarks and insults made by MP Arthur Hovhannisyan, to which law enforcement has so far taken no action.
The lawyers will demand either the termination of the criminal proceedings against their clients or the cessation of selective justice.
It is noteworthy that the meeting of the Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs in the National Assembly on April 4 took place in a very tense atmosphere, primarily instigated by the members of the "Civil Contract" faction, especially Arthur Hovhannisyan. This is the same MP who was detained by the police in 2017 on suspicion of committing an alleged crime related to illegal drug trafficking. Furthermore, a criminal case was initiated that was later terminated.
