Better Situations Created in Terms of Positioning after Meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani Representatives: Rubinyan

A significant improvement in terms of positioning has been achieved following the meeting between representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was stated by Ruben Rubinyan, the Vice President of the National Assembly, in an interview with 'Azatutyun', referring to the events that took place last weekend in the Tegh-Kornidzor area.

Rubinyan recalled that an alternative road connecting Artsakh to Armenia was in operation until the new road passing through Kornidzor was ready. From April 1, the alternative route ceased operations, and the new road was launched. As the Vice President of the National Assembly noted, the alternative route had been under the control of Russian peacekeepers until that point, and there were no positions on either side in the Tegh-Kornidzor area, which naturally led to the need for positioning there.

He continued, stating that there had been an agreement that security forces from both sides would be present in that area; however, misinterpretations arose, resulting in Azerbaijani representatives being stationed 300 to 500 meters ahead at five points.

Citing a statement from the National Security Service, Rubinyan noted that representatives from Armenia's National Security Service and Azerbaijan's corresponding agency met in that area, leading to a substantial improvement in the situation, in terms of positioning or deployment. According to Rubinyan, the work will continue.

It is noteworthy that on March 30, Baku announced that in connection with the operation of the new Lachin road, Azerbaijani armed forces had taken control of several heights and primary and auxiliary routes. However, on the same day, during a government session, Prime Minister Pashinyan assured that there had been no changes in the Armenian positions, only an alteration of the Armenia-Artsakh route.

Later, the National Security Service reported that after the launch of the new Kornidzor-Tegh road connecting Armenia and Artsakh, Azerbaijani forces had been deployed at least 100 to 300 meters forward at five points in that area. The opposition accused the government of failing to prevent another advance by the Azerbaijani armed forces.
