Iran Demands Clarifications from Azerbaijan

The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Kanani, responded today to the new accusations directed at the Islamic Republic by his Azerbaijani counterpart. In a post on Twitter, Kanani advised "the Muslim brothers in Azerbaijan" to be aware of the real intentions of the Zionist enemy. He reminded that the Azerbaijani government had been asked to clarify the statements made by the Israeli Foreign Minister regarding the agreement to form a united front against Iran.

"The representative of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs refused to respond and instead presented new accusations against Iran. Does Azerbaijan's silence not indicate that the country is affirming and indirectly approving the words of its strategic partner?" Kanani questioned.

Earlier, the spokesperson for the Iranian diplomatic office had stated that Israel is trying to turn Azerbaijani territory into a threat to Iran's national security, also insisting that Tehran "cannot remain indifferent to the conspiracies of the Zionist regime from Azerbaijani territory."

In response to the Iranian official's statements, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aykan Haji-zade commented that threats and provocations from Iran towards Azerbaijan have increased, but they do not intimidate Baku. He added that recent investigations into "terrorism" against an Azerbaijani MP also trace back to Iran.

Thus, Azerbaijani authorities have officially stated for the first time that Iran is most likely behind the armed attacks.
