Video: Iranian Attempts to Smuggle Three Methadone-Soaked Towels into Armenia
The South customs department at the Meghri Border Point has arrested an Iranian citizen who attempted to smuggle three towels soaked in methadone into Armenia. This information has been reported by the State Revenue Committee of Armenia.
According to the statement, the behavior of the citizen arriving from the Islamic Republic of Iran appeared suspicious. Customs officials thoroughly examined his luggage and found three wet towels. It turned out that these were soaked in a type of narcotic drug known as methadone.
The SRC emphasizes that this method of drug smuggling significantly complicates the detection of these substances by customs authorities. "Drugs soaked into textile products are usually transported by smugglers in suitcases, which also contain numerous personal items and clothing," the statement noted.
Materials related to this incident have been forwarded to the Investigative Committee of Armenia, where a criminal case has been initiated under Article 399 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (smuggling of narcotics, psychotropic substances, their preparations, equivalents (analogs), or their precursors).
The Iranian citizen M.Z., who illegally transported narcotics across the state border, has been arrested.
