Increase in Parrot Sales in Turkey After Earthquakes: Here's Why

After the earthquakes with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6 in Kahramanmaraş, the aftershocks have instilled fear in citizens. In an effort to cope with this fear, individuals are purchasing parrots, which are believed to have a premonitory ability to sense earthquakes.

According to reports, the belief that birds can sense earthquakes beforehand and exhibit unusual behavior has heightened the interest of citizens in parrots following the quakes that affected 11 provinces. Animal lover and trader Mehmet Kaleloğlu stated that birds have the ability to sense tremors before they occur, even if only for a short time. He noted that caregivers of animals might understand this situation better.

The phenomenon of increased interest in parrots is part of a broader trend where people seek comfort and assurance in unusual circumstances.
